Dear Coach,

Please accept this letter as an invitation to have your team attend former USC All-American Cherie Nelson Basketball Skills Clinic. We are excited to have special guests: NBA All-Star Lamond Murray (Clippers, Cavaliers, Nets) and Honorary guest speaker, Dr. Paula McGee ( University of Southern California , 2-time National Champion, All-American and inspirational speaker).

Clinic features experienced coaches with college and professional background. Our coaches include Duane Cooper (Former LA Lakers), Ronnie Coleman (USC), Tyrone Fuller (USC), Keith Johnson (NSPA Sports Training), Greg Minor, Greg Minor JR ( South Plains Texas ), Marlon Farley (COC) and Jordan Fuller.

Attendees will learn to become well-rounded, team-oriented basketball players. Attendees are grouped according to age and ability. These sessions offer intense, specialized basketball instruction with emphasis on the fundamentals of dribbling, shooting, rebounding and defense. Attendees will receive lectures on proper offensive and defensive techniques, as well as individual and team competition. We provide an enjoyable experience for attendees of all ability levels.

Grant high (city of Van Nuys) is hosting a girls varsity Spring league April 29th (Mondays) 5 games (5weeks) CIF Officials, two 20 minute halves, snack bar, good competition, great way to get your team ready for next season. Jeremy Russott's Skill Training U Trainer Certification Program has announced its next big event, October 6th-7th in Oakland, CA. The event will be held at Holy Names University, for coaches, trainers, players, and dedicated parents.   It is a 2-day event, with 14 hours of court specific instruction. Jeremy is a trainer for the some of the top high school, NCAA, and Professional basketball players. This is Jeremy Russotti's premier event, where attendee's receive his 28+ page Syllabus with every drill for every facet of individual training that he provides in his distinguised Green Room Training Program (www.greenroomtraining.net). For those that have his four Millennium Series DVDs, only around 35% makes up his 28+ page syllabus. Therefore, the majority of his teachings (65%) is for this special exclusive event. Says Jeremy, "at first I was hesitant to run this event and share with others what I have been studying and building for the past 11 years. However, after the Vegas event, I saw how appreciative the coaches were and how we have completely changed their philosophy on how they run their practices. That far outweighed taking my curriculum to my grave."

We will also be adding former NBA player and current D1 Coach Rex Walters (University of San Francisco) for shooting instruction, and one of the top Strength and Conditioning Coaches John Murray (Former Golden State Warriors Strength & Conditioning Coach). FOR PLAYERS: They are also offerring 4 spots to high school age players (must be varsity level talent) to train and learn during the event. For players it is basically the most elite, jam packed basketball camp they will ever attend. We are only offerring 4 open spots to the public!!! To register email Jeremy ASAP for a spot. The cost is $400. Says Jeremy, "this is a great opportunity for players to learn everything they need to know about Skill Training, and as well the biomechanics for each movement. Since I do not train many high school kids personally this is the best opportunity to get a ton of information and court time in a weekend."

At the first event in Vegas, the attendance ranged from NBA Head Coaches, Professional Overseas, SEC Assistant, National Juco, D2 Assistants, high school, and AAU Coaches.   Therefore, it is the ultimate networking and social event as well.

805 Hive has constant open tryouts for 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th Grade Boys & Girls at Royal High School in Simi Valley on Sundays from 5:00 to 8pm. 805 Hive club team’s play in local tournaments and leagues as well as AAU sponsored tournaments. Guide for Incoming Freshmen Basketball Tryouts:

    • First and foremost grades are always the most important thing, without good grades sports don't mean much. (There is a reason that the word STUDENT comes first in student/athletes)
    • Show up to the try-outs early, already warmed up and stretched and ready to go.
    • Introduce yourself to the coaches, don't be shy.
    • Each high school runs a basketball camp either right before or right after tryouts be part of it. It's another way for the coaches to get to know you and see you play.
    • Wear your club/travel team shorts (if applicable) to your tryouts, coaches like players who have played club ball because it means that they have been taught plays, defensive schemes, team principles to name a few.
    • Since these are tryouts it is important that players show their strengths, go all out and show the coaches your abilities and don't hold back. Show them your individual play and your team play. Since these are tryouts you want to show them what you can do first and foremost. When you scrimmage also show them how you play in a team enviorment. You have spent countless hours doing many different types of basketball drills, you are ready!
    • Most schools will have summer tryouts and then also additional tryouts in the fall. New kids may have moved into the area or transferred in after summer ball. The good thing is coaches will know you and your abilities if you played summer ball, your chances of making the fall team are much higher then someone who didn't. I have never seen a child who made the summer program not make the fall team.
    • Respect the game as much as you want to be respected.
    • Practice hard because you play the way you practice.
    • Help your team win whether you play or not, that's what a teammate does.
    • Maintain eye contact with all adults when they talk to you. Practice on your friends.
    • It is your coach's opinion of you that counts. He makes out the lineup. Fail to understand this point and you will soon be out of the game
    • Don't be a know it all and follow their instructions to the letter. Coaches love players who listen and follow instruction.
    • Character means doing the right thing when nobodies watching.
    • Understand that defense wins more games than offense.
    • Don't talk or dribble a ball when a coach is speaking.
    • Don't be afraid, show confidence, show them you are willing to put in the time to improve, and most importantly, show them you love playing basketball.

The 2012 California State Games Basketball Championships are being held on July 20-22, 2012 in San Diego, CA. Do not miss the chance to be crowned STATE CHAMPION in our 24th year of the Games!

New this year, we will be hosting 2 Divisions in our Championships; an Elite Division and a Gold Division! Placement in each division will depend on the Results from Qualifying Tournaments.
